In this exhibition of new work, artist RAY explores the iconography, cosmology and mysticism of Christianity
RAY is an artist based in the South West. He uses drawing, painting, collage, photography and performance to explore themes based around religion and politics.
His paintings are made on wooden boards, layered with images, text, diagrams and photographs. He adds acrylic paint, spray paint, wax crayon, paint pens and glue. The work is sanded and scrapped to reveal layers underneath, like an archaeologist revealing layers of history.
His photography is often based around performance. A unicorn, as mythical creature, and terrorist, as contemporary archetype of evil, are recurring characters. Other key themes are nature, specifically trees, and architecture.
