Reggaeton

Reggaetone is a Cuban inspired fitness program created by Alain Hernandez, which incorporates Latin rhythms like Salsa, Samba, Merengue and Reggaeton.

It is a high intensity cardio class which also includes resistance work, providing an all round total body workout.

Cubatone is suitable for all skill levels.

Herbert Intensive Dance Class at The Island

Graham Intensive with Herbert DesLauriers

Herbert DesLauriers’ – Martha Graham Contemporary Dance class starts with a breath… the breath realises the core… a strong core manifests the energy to create the resistance and fluidity in dance movement. Herbert’s Graham based, modern dance class trains, strengthens and prepares the dancer for many genres of dance. The class is open to all levels and will begin with the Martha Graham basics starting with floor work. This is an excellent opportunity for dancers of all levels to either be introduced to or continue the pursuit of the Graham technique.

£7 per class

Herbert was born Germany.  He earned a degree in stage dance and choreography from the Amsterdam University for the Arts.  He continued his training in New York City with Alvin Ailey and Martha Graham dance schools.

Herbert spent many years dancing with Tanzatelier (Sebastian Prantl) in Vienna, Austria as well with the A.L.M. dance company in Graz Austria.  He has also danced in many industrial shows throughout Germany and France.  His choreography has won awards at the Kaliz Poland Dance Festival.   After moving to Cologne, Germany, Herbert began working in performance art through dance movement.  He performed and choreographed for Pollman’s Cologne and Position Dance.  He has also choreographed for various dance schools throughout Nordrhein Westfahlen.

Herbert has taught throughout the central Germany area—primarily in Cologne and Düsseldorf.  His main teaching styles are the Martha Graham as well as Lester Horton techniques.  He believes in instilling a strong core-based technique to encourage a dancer to pursue many different styles an to continue dancing for many years without injury.

Before relocating to Bristol with his partner, he was and still is performing with a performance art group in Cologne, Düsseldorf and Berlin, Germany.  His creation of the Stock und Stein Project (Stick and Stone Project) interweaves the artistically polished branches from trees, architectural stones from the Rhein river and the classically trained human form creating a unique type of dance expression.   In May, Herbert will premiere a new dance piece for the Bristol Opera’s production of Cavalleria Rusticana.

Pilates with a smile! No two sessions will be the same you can expect to become confident with basic Fitness Pilates sequences which we will develop and progress as you get stronger.

Tone and strengthen your whole body. Creating a flatter midsection and long lean muscles.
Reduce your risk of injury by offsetting muscular imbalances.
Help your body move optimally in sport daily and activities.
Improve your flexibility, Mobility, Co-ordination, Agility and Balance.
Energize your body through slow breathing technique used throughout the class.
Leave you feeling relaxed and revitalised.

Level:
Mixed ability progressions and adaptations are made to suit all fitness levels. Not suitable for pre or post natal ladies where specialist classes are recommended. Please note Fitness Pilates is a not a remedial Pilates class,it is a dynamic workout designed for the healthy adult over 16 years of age.

Ladies only stretch & roll exercise class: stretch exercises to music with some optional elements of ginastica yoga and jiu jitsu.
It is suitable for women of all fitness levels as a general exercise and/or to use for strength and conditioning.
The class has however also been especially designed for women who are nervous, who don’t have much confidence, who have panic/anxiety issues, for any women who are trauma survivors, and private 1-2-1 sessions can also be arranged.

Bristol Bollywood with Aanchal : Regular Intermediate level

Regular Intermediate level Bollywood Choreography Batch. I bring to you a package of different dance style from India in their original form. In these sessions you will learn and experience Bollywood choreographies along with Folk and Classical dances from India.
If you have danced Bollywood before or you have any other dance experience this will be a perfect session for you to add a new style on to your dance cap. We will be learning techniques, intricate movements with expressions and fusion of styles, putting everything together to create beautiful choreographies.
This course also opens up lot of performance opportunities with the Team ‘BollyRed’ all over UK.

What to expect from the course:

*Carefully designed exercises and sequences to support the development of strength and body awareness required for this beautiful circus art.
*Warm up draws on influences including yoga, dance and pilates. We will start with conditioning exercises that form the basis of aerial technique.
*The classes develop through learning static poses into full sequences.
*Abby is a very experienced performer and teacher, with a particular strength in creating unique choreography, and facilitating students ability to dance in the air.
*In the beginners class there is a focus on technique, in the intermediates the focus is on repertoire and creation.

What to bring with you: Recommended: comfortable double layer of leggings with fitted t-shirt thats easy to tuck in/leotard or shorts to cover stomach area.
