Beginners Pattern Cutting
October 7, 2019 @ 6:15 pm - 8:45 pm
Held in the Stitch-up Studios at The Island, Nelson Street BS1 2LE
Monday 7th October – 4th November 2019 (5 weeks)
6.15 – 8.45 p.m.
(Max of 5 students)
Ever wondered how patterns are made or wanted to make your own but don’t know how? This pattern cutting course will introduce you to the method of flat pattern cutting to create a ‘block’ pattern and show you ways it that can be used to create patterns for your own designs.
Starting with the skirt block (or another simple garment if agreed with the tutor in advance), you will create your own block pattern to fit either yourself or other specified measurements (made to measure). You will be shown some basic methods of pattern design/adaption that could be applied to the skirt block or other garment types, such as adding seam lines. These methods could also be used to amend shop bought patterns. The block pattern can be made to your own measurements, someone else or a standard measurement e.g size 12. If you would like to make the block for someone else, this is possible but please discuss in advance as you will need to ensure you bring the correct measurements to the first session.
All students will be starting at the same level but with a maximum of 5 students in the class, you can progress at your own pace and will receive lots of 1:1 support and guidance.
All materials and equipment are provided but you may find it useful to bring a notebook and wallet to store hand-outs and patterns.
Following on from this course you might like to attend the Cut Make and Trim Sewing Course or the Creative Pattern Cutting Course.
