Is it a mistake to get too deep into all that kind of stuff?
November 25, 2016 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 pmFree
Is it a mistake to get too deep into all that kind of stuff? is an artwork by an unknown group of artists composed of two parts: a participatory performance and an exhibition. The performance will be set on the 25th of November and the results of the activity will be re-elaborated and presented at SPACE on the 6th of December.
The PARTICIPATORY PERFORMANCE
The performance will take place late in the afternoon at SPACE. The participants will be involved in three activities headed by a coordinator referring to the topic of addiction as it has been theorized by Bruce K. Alexander in “The Globalization of Addiction – A Study in Poverty of the Spirit”:
Addiction 3: Overwhelming involvement with any pursuit whatsoever (including, but not limited to, drugs or alcohol) that is harmful to the addicted person, to society, or to both.
Addiction 4: Overwhelming involvement with any pursuit whatsoever that is not harmful to the addicted person or to society.
Bruce K. Alexander pointed out how addictions can be a palliative for a reality in which people don’t feel comfortable because they can’t truly relate to it. What creates the reality surrounding us and that we can call “our”? It’s also the people we meet and the relations we can establish with them. If the communication restricts itself to a small form, the lack of depth will provide us a cheap connection to the other.
To challenge this potential lack, the performance will push the participants through deep comprehension processes.
To apply to be a participant you need to send an e-mail titled “APPLICATION 25th NOVEMBER” to email@example.com with your first name only. In answer you’ll be given a time and more information if requested you must come to SPACE’s building, located in 6 West street, Old Market, BS2 0BH.
The performance expects audio recording moments. You’ll be asked to sign a disclaimer to allow the artist to record any kind of sound and to use the material for the output of the current project.
Deadline Thursday 23rd November.
