Sunday Fun – Irish Ceili
May 19 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm£11
Ceili Dancing originated in Ireland in the 1500’s! The energetic dances are performed in groups, with each dancer having a partner. Using simple footwork such as skip 2 3’s and the sidestep, Ceili is ideal for beginners and is really fun! It is danced to lively Irish music that you can’t help but move your feet to!
There are 30 recognised Ceili dances today, and in this enjoyable workshop we will learn some of these, in both jig and reel timing. We will start with a warm-up routine to get the blood pumping, after which we will learn the basic foot movements needed in the dances, and then progress to the Ceili’s themselves!
The workshop is for dancers of all levels, with an emphasis on having fun and meeting new people, while learning a wonderful part of Irish culture.
This class is run by Horizon Dance Company and taught by Katie Smith TCRG, a fully qualified Irish Dance teacher registered with An Comisiun le Rinci Gaelacha (the largest Irish Dancing governing body).
