SWDT Cecchetti Ballet
September 15, 2015 @ 6:15 pm - 7:15 pm
This is a vigorous sumptuous ballet class drawing largely on Cecchetti ballet technique – training exercises for strength and coordination that have an innately lavish dance quality that is very satisfying for dancers.
Among the technique’s advocates over the years Ninette de Valois (founder of the Royal Ballet) and Marie Rambert (of Rambert) both studied Cecchetti method extensively and Darcy Bussell said, “The Cecchetti work has given me strength, discipline and co-ordination. It wasn’t until I got into the Royal Ballet Company that I realised how lucky I was to have had that training.” We will work to music from a range of genres (classical, rock, hiphop, jazz, blues, folk) that help emphasise the quality aimed for in the various exercises and enchainements.
Expect to enjoy dancing to some great music while improving your technique. As well as training exercises some of the hallmarks of classical repertoire will be broken down during the course as well as some newer material.
Cecchetti training improves strength, conditioning and coordination, making it possible to achieve a range of new dance movements with conviction and grace.
Caveat: It doesn’t get easier, you get better.
Please bring to the class clothes that allow you to move;
ballet slippers/pointes or just regular socks;
energy, focus and soul
We will aim to break down exercises for less experienced dancers while stretching those with more prior ballet training.
Some prior ballet experience is recommended
