Whitehall War Graves
July 26 @ 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Whitehall War Graves is a project which explores how photography can draw attention to materials and what those materials can mean. Portland stone, quarried and laterly mined on Portland, Dorset is a material which has come to be closely linked to institutions and sites of power, nationalism and consumption; it is used to make Commonwealth War Graves and used to construct and face buildings in Whitehall and the City of London.
The exhibition images consider how materials are transformed by the hands of those who work them to take on other forms in the kinds of spaces within which they are found and invite viewers to reflect upon the surfaces and uses of materials.
The research project has been funded by Research Publicity and Dissemination scheme Award at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol).
This event is fully accessible.
