Solo Jazz Weekend with Simon Bressanelli

Fancy honing your solo jazz skills?…Or taking it the next 5,6,7,8 steps further?… Or adding more pizazz to your partnered dancing?

Then this is the event for you! Throughout the weekend, Simon will be taking you through the fundamentals of solo dancing right through to advanced techniques and playing with crazy rhythms.

Expect a total of 8 hours bespoke teaching over the two days.

Saturday will be an open level course suitable for those new to solo jazz. More challenging techniques will be given to those with more experience.

Sunday – you know the Shim Sham, have taken classes in the Tranky Doo and probably done the Big Apple. This day will focus on more advanced sequences, playing with rhythms, syncopation and funky footwork.

Timetable will be as follows:
Saturday 7th July 2018: 1pm – 5pm
Sunday 8th July 2018: 1pm – 5pm

Prices are as follows:
Full Weekend: £80/£75 concessions
Saturday only: £45/£40 concessions
Sunday only: £45/£40 concessions

(The Dance Space has a harlequin sprung dance floor therefore they operation on a no shoes policy for all bookings a part from ballet shoes and clean trainers/sneakers. This is in place to prevent any potential damage by scratching or ripping occurring to the specialised dance flooring) Make sure your dance shoes are cleaned before you arrive.

A £ 50 fine will apply to any hire where non appropriate footwear is worn on the dance floor.

If you are coming from out of town and in need of free accommodation then please also state this when you register. I will endeavour to find you a bed space with one of our local dancers, However this is not guaranteed.

Open dance classes for students, actors and anyone aged 15 and over who would like to up their game!

Jennifer Higham – teacher

Jen has been teaching dance for over 20 years. She has performed in the West End and has choreographed countless musicals. After training as a dancer – achieving Graduate 1 2 and Associates in Ballet, Tap and Jazz – Jen went on to acting, and was offered a place at RADA.

However, she never went, because she was cast in the Miramax feature film Ella Enchanted. This led to a career in theatre, including: the National Theatre, Hampstead Theatre, Trafalgar theatre, The Gate Theatre, Richmond Theatre, The Watermill,

Bristol Old Vic to name but a few. Jen also works regularly in television and film, appearing in productions as diverse as Persuasion, Back Home, Star and The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies; working with directors like Stephen Poliakoff, Roger Michelle and Woody Allen.

Throughout her career, Jen has used her dance training extensively. It is a wonderful tool to use in productions, making you aware of your body and how to use it to your advantage. Jen is delighted to offer these dance classes to all who have a passion for dance and the desire to improve their skills, up their game and grow as a performer.

The Actors’ Workshop is a unique centre of excellence, providing young performers who have the drive and determination to learn their craft with unparalleled professional training.

Taking the drama colleges as our model, we have developed and continue to refine a unique programme, which helps our students acquire the skills they need to work in the industry. Taught by trained, experienced professional actors, our skills-based classes cover everything from Shakespeare to musical theatre. Our highly successful College Foundation Course at the Tobacco Factory prepares students for drama school auditions; every year half our students are accepted on BA/MA courses at accredited conservatoires.

We also run small classes for teenagers – at another tobacco factory: Factory

8 on Upton Road in Bedminster.
